Community of Kristo Buase Monastery
The Monastery
Kristo Buase was a joint foundation made by Prinknash, Ramsgate and Pluscarden Abbeys on behalf of the English Province of the Subiaco Congregation. It was founded in 1989 as a Contemplative Benedictine Monastery within the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sunyani. It is now part of the Diocese of Techiman.
We have a triple heritage: as monks of the Subiaco-Cassinese Congregation we share in the charism of our founder Abbot Pietro Casaretto; as a house founded from Prinknash we are part of the Caldey tradition; as an African community we look to our brothers elsewhere in Africa for guidance in the successful inculturation of monastic life.
The History
Founded in 1989, three monks came from the founding houses. After a few years candidates were professed and in 2004 Bartholomew Banzie OSB was ordained priest. He died in August 2014. In August 2016 the monastery became a Priory and the first Conventual Prior was elected. There are 9 in the community.
The Activities
Running of a cashew farm, making moringa products, jams, wine. We have a retreat house.
