Wis 7:7-11; Ps 89 (90); Heb 4:12-13; Mk 10:17-30

«The Word of God – affirms the letter to the Hebrews – penetrates to the point of division of the soul and the Spirit». It works in us that discernment in which the wisdom of God manifests itself, something that the first reading urges us to ask for, because it is an “invaluable gem”, in front of which everything else fades into insignificance: gold, silver, health, beauty… Placing us in front of the refusal of the rich to follow Jesus, Mark forces us to a discernment, making us realize, continuing along wisdom’s path, that Jesus is the true treasure, inestimable, worthy of our heart’s attachment. In him the wisdom of God is embodied and becomes for us a person who loves us, welcomes us, wants to establish with us a faithful relationship, also through the way of following. The rich person of the Gospel is incapable of accepting his precious mystery and his invitation to happy life and goes awat sad, incapable of real renunciation. It is not so much that we’re asked to renounce riches, but ourselves. In truth, life does not depend on what we do, but on the relationship we live: With Jesus and, in him, with God, the only good.
