Abraham leaves, obedient to the word of God, towards a land he does not know, but charged with a blessing, which he receives from God to become a blessing for others. We also don’t know exactly where life will lead us; however, we are confident that we will walk in the horizon of a blessing, to be accepted and given. With the same attitude, Jesus sets off for Jerusalem. His path will enter the darkness of passion and death, however that glorious light that shines through his transfigured body will continue to illuminate his path, lived in conversation with Moses and Elijah, that is, with the Scriptures, and through them with the Father, who continues to place his complacency on him. Peter, James and John would like to build huts to wait, so as to stop the journey and contemplate the face of Jesus, who now manifests himself in all his human and divine splendor. On the contrary, God urges them to listen to the word of the Son, who invites them to follow him along his own way. The glory of Jesus is not contemplated by expecting it, but by following it along the way of the cross and of the gift of oneself. He who overcame death, writes Paul to Timothy, makes life shine through us through the Gospel. In other words, it makes our existence luminous, allowing it to live in that same love of its own, which nothing holds back, but offers everything. Life then becomes truly a blessing.
