The search carried out by the Magi is guided by more signs, more lights. First of all there is the light of the star. “We saw his star appear and we came to worship him.” Then there is the light of the Scriptures, because in Jerusalem are the scribes who, interpreting the Scriptures, tell Herod, and then Herod will tell the Magi, that the expected must be born in Bethlehem. Finally, there is a third light, that of the dream, because it is in the dream that the Magi are warned not to return to Herod, but to reach their country by another way. These three lights are also today the three ways in which God reveals himself and challenges us, guides our path, illuminates our search. There is a word of God that reaches us in the dream, it resonates within us, in the truth of our conscience, if we listen to it with rectitude; speaks in the interiority of our lives. There is a word of God that reaches us through a star. It is the word that speaks to us through nature, the cosmos, but also in the signs of the times. Finally, there is a word of God that speaks to us through the Holy Scriptures. To find the one we seek, to welcome his manifestation, we too must, like the Magi, allow ourselves to be guided by these three lights.
