In the desert of trial, Jesus overcame the temptation of the divider who tried to separate him from the Father. Now, on Tabor, in this experience of prayer that Jesus lives, the filial communion that unites Jesus to the Father is manifested in all its beauty. It is still listening to the Word to guide him, since he, conversing with Moses and Elijah, dialogues with all the Scriptures. Jesus used to spend nights of prayer in solitude. This time he takes with him three disciples, who, surprised by what happens, would like to do something: build three huts. But they are not the ones who have to do something; rather we must let ourselves be enveloped by the cloud of God: we too must enter, with Jesus, keeping watch like him, praying like him, listening like him, in the shadow of God and his Spirit, because, as Paul writes to the Philippians, it is to share the experience of Jesus to transfigure our wretched body to conform it to his glorious body. On the night of the covenant Abraham also sleeps, only God passes among the divided animals, a sign of the gratuitousness of the pact that God makes with men. The Lenten journey must therefore educate us to clear life from all that prevents the transfiguring gift of God from working in us.
